This peaceful setting gives Canadas tenth largest city a small town feel, despite its population of more than 400,000. The city offers a cosmopolitan range of museums, galleries, theatres, cinemas, music and sporting events youd expect from a much larger centre. The enchanting Victorian architecture of the older parts of the city is complemented by a wide range of cafes, shops and a variety of good restaurants. The University of Western Ontario is situated just north of the city centre, within walking distance from the cultural heart of the city. London boasts a superb symphony orchestra and several excellent instrumental and vocal ensembles. Events such as the London Big Band Festival, the Home County Folk Festival and the Forest City Jazz Festival contribute to the citys rich musical life. The curtain goes up all year round on a variety of stage productions. The gloriously restored Grand Theatre is home to a nationally renowned professional theatre season. Theatre goers can also visit the world famous Stratford Festival or smaller professional theatres in nearby Blyth and Grand Bend.

London also celebrates its cultural diversity through its many multicultural festivals, including Sunfest, the Multicultural Winter Festival and Panorama Cultural Festival. London is also committed to the business of research; it has a strong research and technology focus, and Western plays a vital role in that reputation. Western has a number of outstanding multidisciplinary centres, including the world famous Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel, Surface Science Western, the Chemical Reactor Engineering Centre and the Tribology Research Centre. The University of Western Ontario Research Park exists to promote collaborative research between companies and organizations and university researchers. One of its most prominent tenants is the National Research Councils Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Institute.

London enjoys four seasons, with a short spring, long warm summers, crisp sunny falls, and winters with less snow-fall than Ottawa, but more than Toronto.
